In this chapter "Show you care" they've introduced Aristotle's third ethos quality. The word is "disinterested goodwill", and it basically means showing you don't care. They use an example on page 75 here they talk about a guy asking to borrow his dad's car. He makes his dad think he's really concerned about the girl's safety so he can use his car. He disinterested his dad about the car and more so her safety. When trying to persuade someone your ethos have to be very good, it's very important that your audience is very attentive. The term dubious is now introduced and is a way to underestimate someone. The person that they've introduced as a example is Abraham Lincoln when he was running for president. They judged his appearance; big hands, New York attire, and a accent. As Lincoln persuaded to speak his ethos grabbed the audience's attention and made them believe he was sincere. A way to enhance Dubitatio in your speeches is not to immediately go for your main point of argument. You can start off talking at a lower pace and lack of eye contact but when you get to your argument you do the opposite. Dubitatio means show doubt in your rhetorical skill.
