Give a persuasive talk
"Give a persuasive talk", in this chapter they're discussing Cicero's five persuasive elements. With these five elements you should be able to persuade someone easily in a argument. The five persuasive elements are; invention, arrangement, style, memory, and delivery. The first element that's discussed is invention, invention means to me getting your thoughts together and setting your purpose for the argument. The objective of invention is to "change the audience's mind", states on page 282. Changing the audience's mind will make your "rhetoric seem more deliberative". The second element is arrangement, arrangement is as simple as arranging/organizing your speech in the order you'll say it. "It comes down to the rule of thumb; ethos first, logos first, lastly pathos." That phrase describes the order in which you should arrange your argument to make it successful. The introduction would include your ethos, your narration includes your facts also known as logos, and your division and proof include your pathos. Arrangement is very useful when arguing because it allows you to gather your thoughts and let your speech flow smoothly. The third element is style, style is expressed by diction: your word choice. There are five virtues that come along with style, the first being proper language. Proper language is knowing which words fit the right subject. The second virtue is clarity and t means making sure your talking with ease and that your understandable. The third virtue is vividness, vividness is based upon allowing your speech to come to reality when speaking to your audience. Making your speech seem like reality it will help with persuading the audience and making them believe you. The fourth virtue is decorum, decorum is "the art of fitting in". When persuading you must talk about things everyone is familiar with, because it'll help with you actually looking like you knew what your talking about. The fourth element is memory, memory is the way your able to memorize what's being said. You should want your audience to memorize the things your saying and, making a mental image of what is being said. The final element is delivery, delivery is as simple as the way you deliver your speech. Delivery is made up of your " voice, rhythms, and breathing". I learned the five good techniques to successfully persuading in a argument.
